IR 9.0 – Rethinking Communities, Rethinking Place (Copenhagen)

The annual conference of the Association of Internet Researchers is one of the premier opportunities for scholars and researchers of all things Internet, as well as related new media technologies and practices. It is a forum to meet, present research, network and share ideas in a cooperative, multidisciplinary environment. IR 9.0: Rethinking Community, Rethinking Place, will be in Copenhagen this year, and build on the work of the previous conferences.

October 15 (Wednesday) is the pre-conference workshop and tour day, the conference itself gets going on the 16th and runs through the 18th (Saturday).

The conference organisers are:

4th International Conference on e-Social Science

Manchester, June 18th-20th, 2008

Initial Announcement and Call for Submissions

The aim of the conference on e-Social Science is to bring together leading
international representatives of the social science, e-Infrastructure/
cyberinfrastructure and e-Research communities in order to improve mutual
awareness, harmonize understanding and instigate coordinated activities to
accelerate research, development and deployment of powerful, new research
methods and tools for the social sciences and beyond.

We invite contributions from members of the social science,
e-Infrastructure/cyberinfrastructure and e-Research communities with
experience of, or interests in: 1) exploring, developing, and applying new
methods, practices, and tools afforded by new infrastructure technologies -
such as the Grid and Web 2.0 – in order to further social science research;
and 2) studying issues impacting on the wider take-up of e-Research.

Das Abstract:

The internet is the most comprehensive electronic archive of written material representing our world and peoples’ opinions, concerns, and desires. Physicians who surf the internet for the first time are often stunned by what they learn on websites set up by lay people or patient self support communities. Material on these venues can be a rich source for researchers interested in understanding the experiences and views of people and patients. Qualitative analysis of material published and communicated on the internet can serve to systematise and codify needs, values, concerns, and preferences of consumers and professionals relevant to health and health care. While the internet makes people’s interactions uniquely accessible for researchers and erases boundaries of time and distance, such research raises new issues in research ethics, particularly concerning informed consent and privacy of research subjects, as the borders between public and private spaces are sometimes blurred.

International Journal of Internet Science

The International Journal of Internet Science is an interdisciplinary, peer reviewed journal for the publication of research articles about empirical findings, methodology, and theory in the field of Internet Science. It provides an outlet for articles on the Internet as a medium of research and its implications for individuals, social groups, organizations, and society.

Gast des DEMOSCENE MEETING0011 ist der lead coder von ‘Conspiracy’ – Barna ‘BoyC’ Buza – aus Budapest, dem 64 Kilobytes ausreichen, um Demo-Produktionen wie die weit über die Demoscene hinaus bekannte ‘chaos theory’ in Echtzeit auf den Bildschirm zu zaubern. ‘chaos theory’ wurde unter anderem auf der Prix Ars Electronica 2007 als Honorary Winner ausgezeichnet und ist derzeit im net.culture.space – Quartier21/MQ zu sehen.

Anhand einer Demoshow wird ‘BoyC’ einen Überblick über die 64kb Intros der letzten Jahre geben und dabei auch auf das Wettbewerb-Verständnis der Demoscene eingehen, das eine ganz zentrale Rolle in der Kultur der Demoscene einnimmt.

Wir würden uns besonders freuen, Euch am Demoscene Meeting0011 begrüßen zu dürfen, zumal es etwas zu feiern gibt: Die österreichische PC-Demogruppe Speckdrumm hat mit der Demo tayfur 2: turkish delight den 2. Platz in der Demo-Competition auf der Demoparty tUM07 erzielt! – congratulations!
